About
Hi! I’m Sarah, and I’m the founder of Valley Halt - a Brooklyn-based landscape and garden design studio dedicated to creating outdoor spaces that respect and celebrate the natural world. I founded Valley Halt in 2021 following a 16-year career in marketing. This - my second act - is the result of a life-long passion for gardening and an innate ability to picture a space’s unique potential.
Born and raised in the Midwest, I moved to New York in 2011 and found my way to Brooklyn where I now live and work with my husband and our dog, Boomer. Living in Brooklyn, I am surrounded by some of the most talented entrepreneurs, artists and crafts people you can find. It was this incredible community that inspired me to turn my passion into a business.
So off I went! I completed my landscape design and horticulture certifications through the New York Institute of Art & Design and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, respectively. I then spent a season working in the green industry, where I established a network of growers, suppliers, and contractors. All the while, I worked on building the foundation for Valley Halt, and I’m proud to officially launch into work this spring!
I believe that landscapes have the capacity to move us. They make us stop, take pause, and appreciate the world around us. They create spaces for peaceful relaxation and reflection, spaces for gathering and entertaining. They serve as the backdrop to the memories we make when we are young and the memories we cherish for a lifetime. That is why I founded Valley Halt. I want to take the years I’ve spent in the dirt and the wisdom passed down to me by generations to create a truly unique-to-you design that you, your friends, and family will enjoy for years to come.
Whether your space is large or small, rural, suburban, or urban, there is - within that space - the potential for wonder and joy - and my singular focus is to help you find just that.
